The passing of recent legislation will have the practical effect of re-allocating funds once utilized by abortion providers and affiliates to other government agencies and some non-profits.
In addition, The Sonogram Bill requires a doctor performing an abortion to meet with the patient 24 hours in advance to explain the procedure and discuss the risks as well as the development of her baby. We anticipate unprecedented numbers of women turning to life-affirming services after learning the truth about abortion.
We at The Heidi Group affirm the dignity and value of girls, women, and families. It is our goal to make sure that before a girl or a woman walks through the door of an abortion clinic, she sees the full picture of the resource community waiting to embrace her and her unborn baby.
Taking Action
In order to effectively utilize the opportunities presented by this new legislation, The Heidi Group has developed a five-point strategy to reach out to every woman and girl considering abortion, with the goal of saving 40,000 babies’ lives in 2012. This number represents half the abortions performed annually in Texas.
- Strengthen the existing network of life-affirming providers and ministries
- Identify all qualified life-affirming clinics and private physicians who can provide health care services as an alternative to abortion providers and affiliates
- Establish a direct-connect 800 number, which will connect girls and women to life-affirming providers
- Equip counselors to prepare girls and women considering abortion with tough questions to ask during their informed consent appointment, allowing them to see the truth about abortion
- Create a far-reaching media campaign encompassing traditional and web based media to ensure every woman knows where she can go for help, a free sonogram, and a free pregnancy test
